Lamborghini Gallardo Replacement to be Named Huracan

By |   |
With the Lamborghini Gallardo recently ending production, there was little doubt the (relatively) high-volume model would be replaced with another model to slot below the Aventador and flagship V-12 Veneno. Most believed and speculated that it would be named Cabrera, but according to the U.K.'s AutoExpress, the new Lamborghini will be named Huracan, after the Mayan god of fire, wind and storms, and also happens to be the Spanish word for Hurricane.
More on Motortrend.com:
The Huracan continues Lamborghini's tradition of Spanish names for its cars, which goes back to the companies early models, which got their names from breeds of fighting bulls or other bullfighting-related items, such as the Espada, named after a type of sword used in bullfighting. The Huracan is expected to continue to use some version of the outgoing Gallardo's 5.2-liter V-10 shared with Audi in its top-spec R8. The Huracan, as well as the next-generation R8, due in 2015, will get a new aluminum spaceframe, but the Lamborghini and Audi will reportedly differ dimensionally. The Huracan is expected to be officially revealed at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Although compared to mass-market brand models, the Gallardo's cumulative sales numbers of over 14,000 units over a 10 year period sounds small, that total made it the best-selling car in the brand's history by a considerable margin, a distinction the Huracan will likely share until the arrival of the brand's SUV model, previewed by the Urus concept. "slot below the flagship V-12 Veneno"   I thought it was to slot below the Aventador?

I thought all the names came from Spanish bull fighting terms, not just Spanish names.  As such, Huracan breaks that tradition.  The importance isn't that the name is Spanish derived, the bull fighting part is what's important.  Stick with the bull fighting names, they are much better. Huracan belongs on any generic sports car and I don't like it.

And I bet when this car is revealed they'll be playing The Scorpions' 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' except some smarty pants will substitute 'Huracan' for 'Hurricane'.

I always thought that Cabrera wasn't suitable as a name for a Lamborghini ... Huracan? Now that's more like it

Well done gentlemen! (I'm looking forward to seeing these on the streets...cuz I obviously can't afford even the tires for this monster)
